Enabling those living with dementia

Working together for a safer and more independent life

Since day one, Visioncall has been driven by the belief that everyone has a fundamental right to sight.

We truly mean everyone!

By 2045 the elderly (65+) population will account for 24% of the UK population, with the working population decreasing.

There are currently 850,000 people living with Dementia in the UK and this figure is expected to reach 1 million by 2025.

There are many causes of sight loss in people with dementia, including eye conditions, other health conditions and normal ageing of the eye.

However, people with dementia can also have visual difficulties because dementia affects the parts of their brain that handle visual information coming from the eyes.

This means that someone with dementia may have visual problems, but have healthy eyes.

Visioncall’s opticians are specially trained to use appropriate communication techniques sensitive to individual needs, ensuring each person is treated with patience, respect and dignity.

Our opticians also make use of subjective and objective to ensure suitable and effective care for non-communicative residents.

As dementia and sight loss are both more common as we get older, it’s important to enable those living with dementia to be as safe and independent as possible.

Living with both dementia and sight loss means that an individual is more likely to experience disorientation, greater mobility problems and an increased risk of falls.

A regular sight test can help to minimise these incidents through improved vision and treatment or management of any eye health problems before they cause damage to a person’s sight.

Sight can also be improved through knowing whether or not glasses are needed or a change in prescription.

If you have a loved one in care who could benefit from extra time, care and attention, why not arrange for one of our team to come out and take them through a personable sight test?
