Simple in design, big in understanding...

As a person ages there are a number of changes to their vision which naturally develop due to ageing.

It’s a simple fact of life for many to experience any of the following as we age:

  • The need for additional light
  • Having a higher sensitivity to glare
  • Reduced peripheral vision
  • Reduced sensitivity to contrasts
  • Slower in adapting to changes in light level
  • Less visual acuity
  • Reduction in depth perception
  • Altered perception of colours

The chances of having a form of dementia also increases with age, and when coupled with any of the changes in vision listed above, it can be harder to make sense of the world around you.

Whatever our eye sees our brain needs to be able to interpret in order to understand.  Depending on a person’s circumstances, either with an eye condition or form of dementia, it can be incredibly difficult and confusing simply trying to make their way around their own home.

Visioncall strive to do more to help our patients with their vision day-to-day, and led us in creating our own range of directional signage for use in the home.

We offer this to each and every one of our partners as well as those who are not currently with Visioncall to ensure sure we are giving more back to patients to improve their everyday lives.

Our wide range of signs have been developed to be dementia aware and above all else functional.

Visual communication experts with Visioncall worked to create signage that feature are simple, clear and easy to understand for dementia patients.

Bright colours, bold lettering spacing and our exclusive iconography all come together to immediately let the person know where they are going.

The key is contrast, which is an element you may notice at first glance.

We used high contrasting colours so each sign can deliberately draw attention and give immediate importance.

Our signs do this effectively thanks to the design, allowing for functional signposting across the home, so if someone requires the bathroom they will be able to see where it is with little obstruction or confusion.

Visioncall have also taken extra steps in the design to make sure it is not just a case of looking good.

All of our signs are self-adhesive for easy installation in the home, meaning no hassle and no worries over the safety in placement.

We also manufacture them using a non-reflective material to avoid light glare and make them easily visible at all times of the day.

Every sign from Visioncall is also waterproof, which just gives that extra peace of mind knowing they will be resilient to any mishaps or accidents.

Our range of signage is for the most common needs of the care home including signs for bedrooms, communal living areas, directional arrows, personal hygiene and medical areas and even staff locations.

But we know every home is different, so if you have a specific requirement in mind for a sign we also offer bespoke options, we understand each home will have their own needs to suit their resident’s needs.
