Here's how you can give your vision some TLC...

Love is well and truly in the air as we once again wait to be struck by Cupid’s arrow… but just think, could he even make that shot with poor vision?

Think of the romance lost!

Poor vision has an effect on everything in our daily lives, making it hard to read who sent you that lovely Valentine’s card or even make out which chocolate to have next in the lovely gift box.

A sight test can make such a huge difference to our lives in maintaining our vision and showing it some much needed love and care.

Just as love knows no bounds, as does the value of taking the time to maintain our vision.

Here are our top five tips to help maintain good eye health and show your eyes some love!

Rest your eyes

The average adult in the UK is said to spend nearly half of their day on screens, with around 4 hours each day on a mobile device alone. That can be a real strain on your eyes, so it is always worth keeping in mind that a wee rest can help your eyes feel less fatigued by the end of the day. Try out the 20-20-20 rule… every 20 minutes look 20 feet away from you for 20 seconds.

Strive for a healthy weight

Obesity and being overweight can increase the risk of diabetes and other health conditions which can contribute to loss of vision, such as diabetic eye disease or even glaucoma. Regular exercise and a balanced diet can help you maintain a healthy weight and it can have additional benefits for your eyes…

Eating right for your sight

Having a balanced diet that is rich in leafy greens, omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc and vitamins C and E can help with age-related vision problems such as macular degeneration.

Family matters

Many eye conditions can be hereditary, so make sure to have a chat with your family to see if there have been any eye conditions throughout your family history. Doing so can help determine whether or not you are at a higher risk for certain conditions, plus who doesn’t love a good gab with your nearest and dearest?

Have regular sight tests

This final tip may seem obvious, but it is worth reminding others of. Even if you think your vision is fine, having it checked by your local Optician can help to identify any underlying health conditions or make recommendations to improve your vision with glasses. Visioncall’s Opticians can make that a reality for your loved ones who struggle to visit a retail store by carrying out a sight test in their home, click here for more information.

We hope our tips help you with showing your eyes some love this Valentine’s Day, after all our sight is precious and we stand to benefit so much from giving our vision some much needed TLC.
