Our story

The UK has an ageing population. And as we age, quality eye and hearing care becomes increasingly more important to our quality of life. That’s why it’s our mission to extend the highest quality health care services beyond the high street. To make these essential services more accessible, more personal, and more effective.

More than 35 years since our inception, we are now the UK's leading home eye and hearing care provider. OutsideClinic brings together a team of over 500 dedicated health care professionals, conducting well over 200,000 home clinics each year.

With the support of the Optimism Health Group and the recent acquisition of Visioncall, we continue to grow to meet the growing demand for outstanding care. We’re always looking forward, seeking new ways to develop our business and practice so we can provide extraordinary care to those who need us the most.

Henry Pitman

Chief Executive Officer

Henry is the founder of Optimism Health Group, the investment business that owns OutsideClinic. He has a track record of building private and public companies in the support services and healthcare sectors. Outside work, he is a trustee of conservation trusts in Kenya.

Mike Smith

Chief Operating Officer

Mike is the COO of OutsideClinic, having previously built two ‘outstanding rated’ homecare businesses.

He is passionate about enabling older people to live independent and fulfilling lives within the comfort of their own home. That means putting the customer at the heart of our service.

Mike is a keen fan and participant in endurance sports because they teach you goal setting, resilience, discipline, teamwork, adaptability, focus, teamwork and continuous improvement. All things he brings with energy to OutsideClinic.

Dan Ritter

Group Finance Director

Daniel joined OutsideClinic in 2022 and was appointed Group Finance Director in December 2023. Daniel qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG in 2010 and is a fellow of the Institute of chartered accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).

Daniel is passionate about developing financial strategy and driving commercial performance, to enable the group to continue to grow its inspiring activities, which truly change the lives of more and more customers each year for the better.

Outside of work Daniel enjoys keeping fit, and recently completed the Paris marathon and UK 3 Peaks challenge. He loves spending time with his growing family and their pet springer spaniel, and enjoys travelling, good food and good coffee.

Paula Cave

Commercial Director, Audiology

Paula leads the Audiology team having previously held senior management positions in the Hearing Healthcare and the Mobile Phone industries.

She is passionate about delivering the very best experiences for both her customers and people alike.

Paula is a keen walker and loves to spend time on the Yorkshire Moors with her (sometimes naughty) Jack Russell, Eddie.

Corinne is the HRD at OutsideClinic, bringing a broad range of experience from different industries.

She wants the business to provide a thriving environment where every colleague can perform at their very best.

Corinne continues to be an active Dementia Friend supporting local groups and individuals to help them live independent lives at home.

Nick Wingate

Professional Services Director

Nick is Director of Professional Services and has been with OutsideClinic for 25 years covering both face to face clinical roles and managerial responsibilities in that time. 

His passion is excellent patient care so being able to continue to provide clinical services to our patients as well as support OutsideClinic clinical staff internally has allowed him to have a fantastic balance to his role.

Nick is a keen runner and enjoys the dedication needed to reach his time and completion goals over distances from 10k to 100k.

Nick Wright

Marketing Director

Nick is the Marketing Director. He brings experience working in multi-national agencies, entrepreneurial start-ups, and fast growth scale ups.

He is passionate about using his marketing expertise to turn a “best kept secret” to a best loved brand in order to make our services as accessible to as many customers as possible. 

Nick coaches and follows team sports. His particular interest is fan engagement and the development of high-performance teams.

Our partners

We deliver domiciliary optics services on behalf of the NHS. In England, Scotland, Wales, and North Ireland.

As a company, we’re a full member of the Federation of Ophthalmic and Dispensing Opticians.

Our Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians register with the General Optical Council.

We adhere to the Domiciliary Eyecare Committee and Optical Confederation's Code of Practice .

We deliver domiciliary audiology services on behalf of the NHS in numerous self-referral areas across England. We do not provide NHS hearing services in Scotland, Wales and North Ireland.

We have IQIPS (Improving Quality in Physiological diagnostic Services) accreditation. UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) oversee this standard. We are the first purely domiciliary audiology service provider to achieve this standard.

Our Audiologists and Hearing Aid Dispensers registered with the British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists and the Health and Care Professions Council.

Our causes

We work closely with a wide range of businesses, charities, and healthcare providers to raise awareness of sight and hearing issues, to encourage the take-up of home eye and ear tests, and to raise money for causes supporting people who struggle with their sight or hearing.
